Slow Cooker Pot Roast

We now have fresh, local beef in our market! Why not try out one of our rump roasts in this easy to make pot roast? Simply add your ingredients to the slow cooker in the morning and come home to a home cooked meal made with ALL local products from our market! 

Did you know that our beef is actually leaner than most meats you will find in the grocery store? Watch your cooking time with these fantastic cuts of meat, the cooking time will be less than anticipated! The lean quality of our beef is due to the fact that our beef cows are mostly grass fed, with some veggie scraps as a treat, as well as grain during certain points in their life. 

 

Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Ingredients:

  • 2lb- 3lb Rump Roast
  • 3 TBSP sugar
  • 3 TBSP Olive Oi
  • 1 Large onion
  • 1 Bunch of green onion 
  • 1 Garlic Scape
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic
  • 1 Medium Turnip
  • 6 Medium Carrots
  • 3lb of Small to Medium Potatoes
  • 1 Sprig of Fresh Thyme
  • 1 Sprig of Fresh Oregano
  • 7 Large Basil Leaves
  • 1 Pack of Onion Soup MIx
  • 4 Cups of Hot Water+ 1/4 cup
  • 1 TBSP Corn Starch

Directions:

  1. Add Oil and sugar to a skillet pan on low heat and let simmer for about 1 minute.
  2. Turn heat on high. Add rump roast to the pan and sear for about 30 second on each side, or until it forms a brown caramelized crust. Ensure you brown all sides.
  3. Transfer your roast to the slow cooker. Keep the juices in the pan.
  4. Turn the pan down to medium heat. Chop onions, garlic and garlic scape and add to the pan. Add to slow cooker.
  5. Chop the herbs and vegetables and add them to the slow cooker.
  6. Add the onion soup mix and hot water to the slow cooker.
  7. Cook for 6 Hours on low heat.
  8. Remove the roast and lay it on a separate plate to let it rest. Cover with tinfoil. 
  9. In a small bowl add 1 TBSP corn starch, 1/4 water. Add mixture to slow cooker.
  10. Add gravy browning if desired.
